Hello! I’m Dan. I’m 43 years young, married to my beautiful wife and have two wonderful kids.
My goal in establishing this blog is because I was able to use the specialized skills I learned to change my life for the better and I want to help all of you to do the same.
I’ll give you some context about my life. Many people, at the first glance, will think that my career progression up to the present is a perfect success story. But this is not so.
I worked for over 20 years as a successful Information Technology Manager. At the moment, I am the Chief Technology Officer for a Municipality in the public sector. I enjoy my work, the people I interact with and the challenges that I face during my routine duties. However, I really don’t like the politics in the workplace, nor do I like trading my time for dollars.
Based on the way that I was brought up, I would have thought that I was doing everything right. I was taught since I was a kid that I needed to go school, get a good paying job and stay in that position for at least 40 years before retiring so that I could enjoy the fruits of my hard labor. I have realized, however, that this is not sufficient.
One of the main problems with the conventional way of living is that it is no longer compatible with modern society. Back in my parents’ day, a job you stuck at for life was actually possible and you were virtually guaranteed a pension at your retirement. Now, with the US government on the brink of collapse, this is no longer certain. It is no longer wise to stick all your eggs into one basket. Throughout recent history, if you have a career with a traditional corporate structure, you are only one evil boss away from a miserable life. Even if your colleagues respect you and you do great at your job, it won’t be enough. And if you hope to have enough money to retire on at the end of a modern career, you had better start saving outside of a 401K, because you can kiss your pension good bye.
I realized this important fact only a couple years ago and immediately took action to bring my life under my own control. I decided that I was going to have multiple streams of income for two reasons:
1. I wanted to be able to protect myself and my family if something bad happened at one of my jobs.
2. I wanted to change my income generation model to a system that was asset based.
What exactly do I mean by an asset based system? In a traditional career, your productivity and income is based directly on the time you put into it as well on if your boss think you deserve more responsibilities or a raise.
An asset based system involves setting up a mechanism to generate income (the asset). Most people who follow this model will set up an online business and then automate it so that it will continue to generate money for you even if you are asleep. This method can make your productivity and income levels escalate at rates far beyond the amount of time that you could actually contribute if you were following a traditional income generating path. A good way to think about an asset is to consider it in the terms of owning a house. You could invest time and money into it by modifying or adding rooms, knowing that the added value will increase and the sale price will more than compensate for the money you added into it. If you have more than one house, then you will be able to greatly increase your income without that much additional work and if a house is swallowed up by a tornado, you will still have the others to fall back on.
This is very much like what I actually did. I started out in the exciting world of real estate. I now own several investment properties in a couple states and they are among my most beneficial streams of revenue.
The good news is that there are many ways of achieving this same end result. Advances in the world of online businesses and internet marketing have created a revolution in the way that people approach the generation of revenue.
For those of you who are interested in traveling, you can do so—all you’ll need is your laptop and a decent internet connection to set yourself free from the constraints of traditional corporate life. You could work on a beach in the Caribbean or at home with your family. It’s up to you.
If you continue with me, I’ll be able to show you how to do this. It will take hard work, but the rewards will be staggering.
